Most people think that miracles don’t happen anymore. They are something from biblical times, where Jesus healed the sick, raised the dead … the biggest one to most people being water turned into wine. But miracles ended when Christ returned to His throne in Heaven. However, if you’ve ever held a 1 day old baby in your arms, and marveled at his or her existence, you know miracles still happen. God’s greatest gift to us is the gift of life. Every life that is brought into this world is a miracle straight from the hands of God.
This past weekend I got to spend 2 days with my family and first nephew, Caleb Scott Hongola, born March 18th 2010 at 8:55 pm. All weekend I couldn’t stop thinking about the life that was brought into this world, and what a blessing and amazing gift from God he is. It’s one of the few events that can bring an entire family together. I got to spend more time with my family this past weekend than I got to spend with them during Thanksgiving and Christmas combined. I’ve never felt closer to my family, just being able to experience this blessing together.
As far as I’m concerned, every child that is brought into this world is a miracle of God’s, which means that miracles occur every day. Actually, they occur 4 times per second, the current birth rate in the world according to the US Census Bureau (http://www.census.gov/cgi-bin/ipc/pcwe). With all of the troubles that invade our daily lives, the stress of work, relationships, school, family life … it’s important to take a moment to realize the miracles that are occurring as well. Unfortunately it is much easier to focus on the problems rather than the miracles. My challenge this week is to seek out those miracles that happen every day in my life. Every time I get stressed about life, or focus on what might not be going right, I am going to try to look at one miracle that has occurred as well. The first miracle being the birth of my first nephew, and the loving family that brought him into this world. God’s greatest gift to us is the gift of life.
hi! i started reading your note about miracles today :) and i finished watching some of the videos, and i want to ask you a question, We do not talk looooong ago, i believe last time was from me being in Argentina, where i am from, but since almosttwo years soon, i am in ohio pursuing a master in counseling and pastoral care.
the question then i want to do to you, is if you have any idea, where i can do an internship, practicum or training, where i can get experience on the issue of modern slavery that is in my heart long ago, or something connected with human trafficking.
i have been searching by these side of the country and i do not find nothing, and i do not have much more time, i mean, next fall i will be starting my last year here, and i feel i couldn’t connect with almost nothing yet, what is so sad.
on the other hand, i did my dts in cambodia (garth gustafson/krissy brown), so probably can be something through YWAM? no idea! and maybe because you are local, i mean US citizen you can know much better than me.
i am graphic designer, but because of my visa (f1) i just can be involved here in something associated to my degree :( I have social security number, and i am legally in the states untill one month after i graduate (hopefully june 11).
thanks a lot and be blessed as uncle in Jesus Name! :)
Cecilia.
You are so right…a miracle and a blessing that seems to penetrate the hardest parts of ourselves. Thanks for sharing Scott.
